Fugue
With five locations to dress and one location focused on key props, this film was an adventure to plan and film. A film encompassed in a father's grief over a broken relationship with his estranged daughter, Fugue required me to see the world from two perspectives at the same time: a bright colourful one and a sombre broken one. I was told that the father had a fond love of the 70s but the film was set backwards and forwards throughout the daughter's life, and so I had to source furniture and a location that would establish his love whilst still creating loss. I also wanted to showcase Yuri's rebellion as a child through the decoration she chose for herself vs what her father chose for her. The party scene was crucial to me as that's when I needed to create the most atmosphere using a very small budget, but by creating enough depth in frame, I managed to give the director something beautiful to work with. The hospital waiting corridor scene was filmed in a location that I scouted as it came with poster boards that I really wanted to use to make the space claustrophobic in comparison to the house, I also designed some funky posters that were in Yuri's colours in comparison to the rest of the space.
