Take Your Meds

I was brought on as Production Designer of this dystopian world. A world in which drugs are the solution to every problem, but the protagonist faces problems that have no cure. The director and I had deep discussion about the stylistic nature of the film and the budget restraints, my goal was to build a convincing world with depth and subtle undertones of the drug abuse in this world. We had to build the set from scratch for eight films and then dress them to suit our films. Initially the room looked like a jail cell and the director was worried, but I converted the space into something that worked. The poppy flowers in this film were a key idea I brought forward as I believed they were highly significant after doing detailed research into flower meanings and uses. I also wanted to make the space as uncomfortable as possible, make the claustrophobia tangible. In addition, I wanted to be able to see the window under the blinds to emphasise a world outside the room, always watching.
